Advisory: Contra Costa County Fire Protection District to start a prescribed burn in Rossmoor on Wednesday.
by Community Advisory
Tuesday, April 30 (2:00 p.m.): As part of the $3.1 million grant for a fire fuel break surrounding Rossmoor, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District is doing a prescribed burn in Rossmoor starting on Wednesday. The prescribed burns will last 2 to 3 weeks.
A chipper cannot get to this area where the brush has been removed and thus the fire department has to burn the piles of material. You may see or smell smoke on the east side rim of Rossmoor. The fire department has obtained the required burn permits from CalFire and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. As a precaution, there will be established water supplies at strategic locations for quick
deployment of water if necessary.
The $3.1 million fire break is a large effort to make Rossmoor safer in case of a wildfire. The break surrounds 90% of Rossmoor and will take up to 18 months to complete. Currently the work crews are clearing an acre a day.
