Event Center anniversary bash planned

Monday, Dec. 18 (9 a.m.): There will be a pair of 10th year Event Center anniversary shows celebrating the center’s opening in 2013, titled “The Best of Times” on Saturday, Dec. 23 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Event Center.

The show will be a variety- style show featuring stars from the original grand opening gala featuring comedian and host David Studebaker, BroadwayWorld award-winner and “Beach Blanket Babylon” star Kelly Brandeburg, recording artist and “American Idol” alum Nick Crossen and twotime Grammy Award winner Mads Tolling, with Carl Pantle at the piano.

Studebaker, named “One of the 10 Best Comics to Watch” by SF Weekly, delights audiences with his brand of fun, fresh, and uplifting comedy, blending music, personal stories, and pop culture into his highly interactive shows. His comedy can be heard in regular rotation on Sirius XM Radio, and he’s been featured on Fox, ABC, the San Francisco Chronicle and a variety of radio shows and publications.

Brandeburg is a winner of BroadwayWorld’s Best Solo Performance honor for her cabaret tribute to the songs of Barbra Streisand, “My Favorite Barbra.” Currently residing in New York, Brandeburg performed regularly as a featured cast member of San Francisco’s long-running hit revue, Steve Silver’s “Beach Blanket Babylon” and has been a featured vocalist with the San Francisco Symphony. She is known to Bay Area audiences from co-starring roles in the popular theatrical revues “The World of Webber” and “The Broadway Divas.” She created the role of “Copper Penny” in the Garry Marshall-mentored production of “The Root Beer Bandits” in Los Angeles and other shows she has starred in throughout the country include “Oliver,” “Catch Me If You Can,” “Jekyll & Hyde,” “The Secret Garden” and “The Wizard of Oz.”

Crossen is a singer and recording artist with roots in Bay Area theater, and a veteran of TV’s “American Idol.” Concerts and performances include shows with Tolling; Disney star Jenna Lea Rosen; fellow “American Idol” alum and star of Broadway’s “Movin’ Out,” Kyle Martin, and a series of programs with another “American Idol” alum, Tori Anna.

Tolling is an internationally renowned violinist and composer originally from Copenhagen, Denmark, now living in San Francisco. As a former nine-year member of both bassist Stanley Clarke’s band and the celebrated Turtle Island Quartet, Tolling won two Grammy awards, and was nominated for a third. He was a winner of the DownBeat Critics Poll Rising Star Violin award and has performed with the likes of Jean-Luc Ponty, Chick Corea, Ramsey Lewis, Kenny Barron, and Leo Kottke. Tolling is a current member of Bob Weir’s Wolf Bros & Wolf Pack Band.

Pantle is an alumnus of the Merola Program at San Francisco Opera and has worked with the San Francisco Opera Center, Opera San Jose, West Edge Opera and West Bay Opera. He has appeared in concert with Tony Award winners Patti LuPone and Laura Benanti.
