(Wednesday, Sept. 30) Under new county rules, Tice Creek Fitness Center will reopen for indoor activity but only at 10% capacity, starting Monday, Oct. 5.
With Contra Costa now in the red tier, the Fitness Center will be capped at a maximum of 10 people per session for general use on the fitness floor, so all use of the gym will be by reservation only. No walk-ins are permitted.
The Fitness Center will begin taking reservations on Friday, Oct. 2, at 7 a.m. No earlier reservations will be available, Senior General Manager Mark Metcalf said, as staff will be busy preparing the Fitness Center for the reopening.
The Fitness Center will be open for normal business hours with sessions divided into 90-minute time blocks – 75 minutes for general use and 15 minutes for cleaning and disinfecting.
Starting Friday, residents can reserve up to two sessions per week, one session per day, up to 14 days in advance. Reservations open up daily on a rolling schedule, starting at 7 a.m. Each week of reservations starts on Monday and ends on Sunday.
Reservations will be available via the Mindbody link at www.ticefitnesscenter.com or by using the Tice Creek Fitness Center app. Residents also can call 925-988-7850 daily, starting at 7 a.m. until the gym closes, to make reservations.
“We are expecting heavy call volume at the Fitness desk extension for the first week or two, so residents will need to be patient and call back if necessary,” Metcalf said.
Staff also likely will not be available to answer phones during the cleaning and check-in times.
No guests are permitted. Care providers are allowed and do not need to reserve a spot but will be required to wear a mask and follow the 6-foot distancing guidelines. Residents living in the same household cannot share a reservation slot.
The opening applies to the gym only; Tice Creek Pool remains closed by county order.
Because capacity is restricted, the Fitness Center staff reminds residents to cancel their reservations at least two hours in advance. Cancelations can be made via online, the app or by calling the Fitness desk (925-988-7850) during business hours. Failure to cancel will result in a resident losing reservation privileges for a period of time.
Residents will be asked to stay outside the main doors until staff permits them to enter. To avoid group gatherings, staff also asks residents to wait in their car until their reservation time.
Residents are asked not to enter the facility if:
- They have had a temperature of 100.4 or greater in the past 48 hours.
- They have returned from out-of-country travel within the past 14 days.
- They have any COVID symptoms, including cough or shortness of breath.
- They have had contact with anyone who has been infected with the virus in the past 14 days or any other possible exposure to COVID-19.
Residents are required to wear a face mask that they provide for themselves, except when working out. Social distancing of 6 feet is required. Hand sanitizer stations and wipes for the equipment will be provided. Drinking fountains will be closed, but the water bottle filler will be available.
