Heat advisory continues through Friday

Residents can find places to cool off in Rossmoor

(Update Thursday, June 17) Several clubhouses will be open during the day and evenings if residents need a place to cool off during the current heat wave.

Gateway, including the Redwood Room, is open from 6 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. The Event Center and Dollar Clubhouse are each open from 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Residents are asked to respect groups who may have reservations for events in these clubhouses.

Outside the gates, residents also will find cooling centers at the Contra Costa libraries, including the one in Walnut Creek and at the Concord Senior Center at 2727 Parkside Circle.

California’s Independent System Operator also has issued a Flex Alert for today, asking Californians to conserve electricity from 5 to 10 p.m. to avoid power disruptions.

(Tuesday, June 15) Rossmoor is under an excessive heat warning for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, June 16 to 18.

Residents are reminded to limit outdoor strenuous activity, seek out airconditioned places, stay hydrated, look after pets and plan accordingly. Pets should never be left in vehicles and owners should be careful walking dogs on hot pavement. Wearing light-colored clothing with a hat can help.

The heat advisory is in place from 11 a.m. Wednesday through 1 p.m. Friday. Temperatures of up to 110 degrees have been forecast, according to the National Weather Service.
