Heater issue closes Tice Creek Lap Pool and opens Hillside for lap swimming

By News Staff

Thursday, February 9 (3:00 p.m.): Because of a heater malfunction, The Tice Creek Lap Pool has temporarily closed, and Hillside Pool has opened for lap swimming and Masters swimming. Hillside’s outdoor pool reopened Monday, Feb. 5.

Hillside will be open in February from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, except Tuesday when it doesn’t open until 1 p.m. because of pool cleaning. The pool is for lap swimming only except from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Mondays and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Thursdays when Masters swimming will be held.

No lifeguard will be on duty at Hillside Pool.

The Tice Creek Lap Pool will remain closed until the heater is repaired. The exercise pool and spa at Tice Creek will stay open.

Staff shut off the heater in the Tice Creek Lap Pool in mid-January when they noticed issues with the burner assembly, GRF Trust Maintenance Supervisor John Raith said. The sevenyear- old heater might have reached its useful life span, Raith said.

At press time, staff was waiting for an inspection to determine whether the heater could be repaired or needed to be replaced.
