(Wednesday, May 25) After a replastering project punctuated by several delays, the Hillside Pool will reopen Thursday, May 26 – just in time for Memorial Day weekend.
The Hillside Pool had been closed since November, when it shut down for the winter season. Difficulty in getting pool contractors delayed the start of the planned replastering work, which was further delayed when cracks were found in the pool. The Aquatics staff had hoped to open in mid-May but were further set back by scheduling delays for the final inspection with the county Department of Environmental Health.
That inspection took place Wednesday, May 25, and because the pool passed, it is allowed to reopen at 6 a.m. Thursday, May 26.
Family Swim also will resume with the reopening of Hillside. Family Swim is available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
Hillside Pool is open weekdays from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., except on Tuesday when it opens at 1 p.m. because of the pool cleaning, and weekends from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Based on the availability of staff, Hillside Pool has no lifeguard coverage during some morning and late-afternoon hours. Director of Resident Services Jeff Matheson said the hours with no lifeguards on duty will vary based on staff availability, much the way it has been handled at Dollar Pool.
Since April, Dollar Pool has had no lifeguard coverage from 6 to 8 a.m. and 4 to 8 p.m.
Matheson said signs will be posted when lifeguards are not on duty.
Hillside reopening also means Tice pools will return to their normal schedule, remaining closed on Thursdays until 1 p.m. for cleaning.
