Tax-Aide returns to Rossmoor in 2024

By AARP Tax-Aide

Monday, Jan. 8 (8:30 p.m.): Free federal and state tax return preparation by AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will be available at the Hillside Clubhouse Vista Room every Tuesday and Thursday from Feb. 5 through April 11.

This service is for anyone who needs to file a basic income tax return, with limited to moderate income and with special attention for those ages 50 and older. This year, Tax-Aide service will be conducted same as last year; counselors will prepare the return with the taxpayer present.

Rossmoor residents who have used the services over the past 20 years know that the counselors are well trained to understand tax situations. A return may include income from Social Security, interest and dividends, and investments. Deductions may include mortgage interest and property taxes, medical expenses, and charitable contributions.

The counselors also know how to prepare the many tax credits available to taxpayers. They will guide those eligible through the steps necessary to identify and collect them. These credits could include earned income, child care, education, residential energy, and qualified retirement savings contributions.

The Rossmoor Tax-Aide services are also available to the many employees of Rossmoor. If the service hours conflict with an employee’s work schedule, other sites around Contra Costa County are open on days/hours that may accommodate them better.

Information on how to make an appointment to have one’s tax return prepared will be discussed in an article in next week’s Rossmoor News.

Tax-Aide is sponsored by the AARP Foundation, in cooperation with Contra Costa County, the IRS and the California Franchise Tax Board.
