🏡 Is Rossmoor Right for Me?

Rossmoor is a planned community for active adults who are 55 years or older. While many residents are retired, many others are still working or planning for their retirement.
Unlike assisted living, Rossmoor provides independent living for active adults. Medical care and daily living assistance are not provided by the community itself.
Because Rossmoor Walnut Creek is an independent senior community, residents must be able to live independently or arrange for their own caregiving needs. There is no assisted living facility or caregiving services available in Rossmoor. Many licensed caregivers and caregiving service providers who have helped past residents advertise in the Rossmoor News and might be available to hire.
No, The Waterford is a congregate living facility that has no medical staff on- or off-site. The 300 condominiums are independently owned.The monthly assessment covers housekeeping, insurance, the RWC amenities, food service, trash/recycle, water and Comcast basic cable and internet.The assessment does not cover the homeowner’s PG&E, property tax or routine expenses such as plumbing or heating and air conditioning.
No. There is a policy that does not allow residents to hold jobs with Rossmoor Walnut Creek. However, qualified family or other referrals may be considered for employment so long as they do not live in Rossmoor.

👤 Age & Residency Requirements

At least one designated occupant of a home must be 55 years or older. Any additional designated occupant must be 45 years old, unless they are a caregiver providing financial or medical assistance on the advice of a doctor. No one under the age of 18 can live in Rossmoor.

🏠 Home Types & Availability

Cooperatives (or co-ops) are "share" corporations that own title to the real property (buildings and land). Owners of the corporation receive an exclusive right of occupancy to a manor and the ownership of one share of stock in the corporation. The corporation handles most of the external building maintenance and grounds and some are responsible for major appliances. There are three co-ops in Rossmoor – First Mutual, Second Mutual and Mutual Eight.
There is no waiting list. All homes are independently owned.
Some homeowners will make their homes available for rent but the foundation doesn’t maintain a rental list. Check with the area real estate agents or the Classified section of the Rossmoor News. Renters pay a usage fee that allows them access to the facilities and amenities; sometimes the owner will include the fee as part of the rent.

Among the amenities included are security; access to the clubhouses, Fitness Center, pools, movie theater and sports facilities; weekday bus service; recreation programs; weekly newspaper; community TV station; counseling services; cable and internet and some additional services depending on the Mutual where you live. 🏊 Amenities and Services

Rossmoor Counseling Services provides short-term counseling for residents of Rossmoor. This includes individual and couples' therapy. It also facilitates several support groups, including two drop-in groups for caregivers, a bereavement support group, and a variety of other goal-focused support groups. It provides community resources and referrals to link residents to services that will help them age in place or find appropriate next level of care as needed.
Paratransit service is for residents who are unable to independently access the use of our bus stairs or bus stops. This service also provides more door to door service for those in need. It provides transportation to the same service locations as the regular Dial-A-Bus service does.
The outdoor pool at Hillside allows family members to join residents to swim weekdays except on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and weekends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The resident must remain with the family members at all times and children swimming independently must be able to pass a swim test if asked by the lifeguard.
The indoor pools have lifeguards during their hours of operation. The outdoor pools at Dollar and Hillside have some hours that are not manned by lifeguards. Posted signs alert residents when lifeguards are not on duty.

🐾 Pets & Vehicles

RWC has a policy that no pets are allowed inside RWC facilities except for service animals that are registered and have the appropriate identifying information that it is a service animal. There are signs posted at the entry of almost every RWC building indicating animals are not allowed.
Rossmoor is a designated golfing community so golf carts are permitted on all roads inside the gate. This is why the speed limit is 25 mph. Residents can fill out a Resident Golf Cart Registration Form and pay a $10 registration fee to have a sticker installed.
Rossmoor is a designated golfing community and under California Vehicle Code 21115, golf carts may only be driven on roadways with speed limits of 25 mph or less.

🔐 Security & Safety

Yes, Rossmoor's 24-hour security service includes a manned front gate with access only for residents and approved guests and vendors, regular vehicle patrols and welfare checks. Residents receive an identification device affixed to their vehicle that gives them immediate access through the gate. The security provider also employs EMTs and offers limited Stair Trac service.

📍 Location & Surroundings

Rossmoor is part of the city of Walnut Creek and 25 miles east of San Francisco. It is easily accessible from Interstate 680 and Highway 24.
Rossmoor is located in the city of Walnut Creek and is just minutes from a downtown featuring upscale restaurants and stores. The Rossmoor bus even goes downtown weekdays on a route with stops at the BART (Bay Area heavy-rail transit system) station, shops including Trader Joe’s and Kaiser Permanente hospital. Walnut Creek also is home to hiking trails in open space and several parks, including Castle Rock, Heather Farm and Civic and borders Diablo Foothills Regional Park.
There are no medical facilities on-site in Rossmoor, but several are located just outside the gate. Two major hospitals also are within five miles of Rossmoor, Kaiser Permanente in downtown and John Muir Health, which is designated as Contra Costa County’s only trauma center.
Three international airports are within 50 miles of Rossmoor. Oakland International is closest (26 miles) and has more than 140 daily flights. San Francisco International (36 miles) is the largest airport with more than 1,000 flights a day and Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International (48 miles) averages about 170 flights daily.
