I just moved to Rossmoor in January 2024. I am a lap swimmer and most condos I looked at didn't have lap pools and the little pools they did have were only open 5 months a year. My favorite place at Rossmoor is Hillside Pool, our outdoor 25-meter pool. It is like a resort with palms, grassy areas, and it is open 9 months of the year. The other 3 months I do my laps inside at Tice, our 25-yard pool. I love the deer, turkeys, squirrels, quail, coyotes that just wander freely. Rossmoor is like living in a big garden, without having to bend over and pull weeds. When my teenage granddaughter stayed with me for a few days this summer, she said "I can't wait till I'm old and can live in a fun place like this."

Among all of Rossmoor’s amenities, the Tice Creek Fitness Center proved to be the cherry on top. As a national traveler and former YMCA Physical Department Chair, I was well schooled in fitness programming across the land. And TCFC is best of all. I arrive six days a week at the 6 a.m. opening bell, appreciating one of the fruits of my monthly coupon in action.

I often feel my move to Rossmoor must be destiny. Aside from meeting kind-hearted neighbors and participating in a rich array of activities, one discovery left me astonished. When I immigrated to the United States from China in 1947, I traveled on board the General Meiggs, a ship owned by Stanley Dollar. And now I am living in Rossmoor, which was the original home of none other than Mr. Dollar himself. As if this were not remarkable enough, I learned later that seven ladies who came on the same ship also made their home in Rossmoor. How incredible is that!

I am a happy Rossmoor resident! I moved here 8 years ago and love it more each month. I usually do 6 activities a day. Water exercise, hiking, lunch out, a movie, Rummikub and a concert at night.
There is so much to do in Rossmoor that does not require walking. All the lectures, movies, concerts, games, and swimming. I love the Dollar pool with its rose garden and white birch trees against the sky. I go there 6 days a week. I am so lucky to live in Rossmoor.

When I go on vacation, I look around, and wish I was back in Rossmoor.
Rossmoor has built-in, planned activities as we age. When younger and active, there’s tennis, pickleball, golf, and a gym. Too strenuous? There’s lawn bowling. Too far to throw the ball? There’s bocce ball. Too hot? We have four swimming pools. Bored? We have several clubhouses, hobby studios, a restaurant and bar, and over 180 clubs where you can find new friends. Also, San Francisco is next door.

I love living in Rossmoor as it feels like I am living in a park with all the generous trees, plants, and wildlife — a small town within a larger city.
My participation in the Pickleball Club and the LGBTQ+ Alliance provides me with a wonderful, welcoming community of people I have grown to love, along with a chance to play a sport I am crazy about.
What a great place to practice aging!
