Congressman DeSaulnier to discuss Social Security, Medicare at Town Hall

Tuesday, July 22 (3:30 p.m.): Residents are invited to attend a town hall hosted by U.S. Rep. Mark DeSaulnier, D-Walnut Creek, on Tuesday, July 29 from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Event Center.

Congressman DeSaulnier will address Social Security and Medicare, share the latest from Capitol Hill, and take questions from attendees.

This town hall comes following the recent passage of the budget bill that includes significant cuts to Medicaid, which provides health coverage for more than 19,000 seniors in DeSaulnier’s district, CA-10. He will share his views regarding the bill’s potential impacts on payments to Medicare providers, access to care for seniors, and the long-term solvency of Social Security.

DeSaulnier will discuss how this bill could affect the lives of seniors and what Democrats in Congress are doing to push back against these cuts.

The congressman also will provide updates on the Social Security Fairness Act – a bill he co-sponsored that President Biden signed into law – that eliminated a practice that barred public servants, including teachers, firefighters and police officers, from collecting their full Social Security benefits.

The doors will open at 2 p.m., and residents are encouraged to come early as attendance is expected to be high. No RSVP is required, and seats will be first come, first served.

For the safety of everyone in attendance, large bags and backpacks will not be permitted. Petitions, banners and signs must also be left outside the venue.
