Counseling Services to host lecture on ‘Nutrition and Aging’
Dr. Tracy Hu will speak March 3 in Fireside Room
By Rossmoor Counseling Services
Ever notice how you can’t eat the same food, or as much food, as a younger you? How the foods that used to cause no problems now seem to trigger bloating, constipation or other types of bowel discomfort. As our bodies age, we need to be more careful about not only what we eat but how we eat. Come and learn tips to maintain a healthy digestive system and maximize nutrient absorption to support graceful aging.
This lecture on Nutrition and Aging, part of Rossmoor Counseling Services’ lecture series, is set for Monday, March 3, at 10 a.m., in the Fireside Room at the Gateway Complex.
Dr. Tracy Hu will be here to address the basic principles of nutrition and aging. This presentation will discuss:
- Processed vs whole foods
- When to buy organic vs non-organic
- Probiotics vs prebiotics
- Healthy and diverse sources of protein and fats
- Essential nutrients like amino acids, omega-3s, vitamins and minerals, phytonutrients and when to get them from food vs supplements
- Overall eating habits to support healthy digestion including Ayurveda practices and traditional Chinese medicine principals
There is so much conflicting information about diet and supplements. Hu will try to focus on this information from the perspective of a general practitioner interested in overall health and healthy aging.
Hu graduated from Williams College with a double major in chemistry and studio art. She subsequently completed a certification in massage therapy while working in Los Angeles. She then earned her master’s degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch and completed her family medicine residency at John Muir Health. Shortly thereafter, she co-founded East Bay Health in 2023, a local primary care clinic with a mission and vision to make health care accessible and equitable.
Refreshments will be provided after the lecture at the Fireside Room and will be provided by Arosa East Bay Homecare Services.
